Advisory Against Fraudulent Calls
The Indian Consulate Erbil would like to draw the attention of Indian Community in Kurdistan about a fraudulent call recently received by a member of the community in Erbil. The caller’s number was showing as Indian Embassy Baghdad number (+964 7726739642) which is a registered Embassy number and which the caller had spoofed. The caller told him that his date of birth was different from the one in the immigration records. The caller stated that he would be deported to India unless he immediately deposits a fine of IQD 3,800,000 in the nearest bank. The caller also told him that he was monitoring his moves.
All concerned are advised to be vigilant and not fall prey to such scams to extract money from unsuspecting victims. We would also request recipients of such calls to note the caller numbers and report to the Indian Consulate immediately with all relevant details to the extent possible. This is to reiterate that the Consulate or Embassy does not call or demand money on phone from anyone in this manner.
We would request all Indian nationals not to panic or pay heed to such mischievous calls and not to transfer any money towards penalty/fine through any banking channel or in any other unauthorized form.
All are requested to please circulate this Advisory among friends and colleagues in the Indian community.
